Herefordshire is the county in the West Midlands It borders the counties of Shropshire in the north, Worcestershire in the east, Gloucestershire in the south east and the Welsh preserved counties of Gwent in the south west and Powys in the west.

Herefordshire is a very rural county best known for its fruit growing and cider production  the county town is the City of Hereford, it has a cathedral dating from 1079 which contains the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world dating from the 13th century It is now known chiefly as a trading centre for a wider agricultural and rural area.
