Kos belongs to the Dodecanese group of islands and lies south of Kalimnos probably only rivalled by Rhodos for visitors popularity.
Kos is the third largest of the Dodecanese, the landscape of the island is mostly flat with low mountains.
The capital also called Kos is situated on the north-east of the island and in the main is now fairly modern but there are still elements of history such as Knights of St John Castle dominating the harbour and ruins of ancient Roman buildings. Probably the most important structure is that of the temple of Asklepios which is a Doric temple erected in the 2nd century B.C.
Kos has plenty of beaches some secluded requiring some travelling as well as wonderful scenery mainly towards the centre of the island.
