The Tabarka summer festival invites youth from all over the world to take advantage of not only the sun, sea and sand, but to discover the historic and archaeological wealth of the cities and regions visited.
Tabarka is effectively a city where the curious can find satisfaction. Unfortunately, very little exists of ancient Thabraca that was so prosperous in the 3rd and 4th centuries. EI-Bekri cited the presence of very beautiful ancient monuments in the 11th century. In any case, today one can visit some haouanet, the Punic tombs that lie in the nearby hills along with the Roman cistern (3-4th centuries), called basilica, the Borj Messaoud, another cistern... But, above all, the Genoese fortress constructed later on the small island near the shore, has a monumental appearance. Still under excavation, it is believed that it will reveal great secrets. For two centuries (1541-1741) it was the property of the Lomellini, a rich Genoese merchant family; it was then occupied, starting in 1781 by the Royal African Company and, in fact, served as the base for the fishing of coral in which the nearby seas are very rich.
