The appeal of Tignes is simple: good snow, spread over a wide area. Tignes and Val-d'lsere together form the enormous Espace Killy - a Mecca for expert skiers, and ideal for adventurous intermediates. Whereas Val-d'lsere has a huge British presence, Tignes is much more French. It is also more reliable for snow: set at 2ioom, it is one of Europe's highest resorts, with good snow right back to the resort for most of the season. The skiing goes up to 3500111, and up there lasts all year round. Access to the highest skiing was greatly improved a couple of seasons back by the opening of a fast underground funicular and fast quad chairs almost to the top. Queues are now much less of a problem, and the amount of skiing you can get through each day is greatly increased.
